OptiX MAXX Optimized Resaw System
by McDonough and A&E
NEW Grade Optimized Resaw System from McDonough Manufacturing and Automation & Electronics
The OptiX MAXX Resaw System combines the proven benefits of McDonough’s AutoMAXX automated resaw with the advanced vision optimization technology of Automation & Electronics OptiX system.
Developed through a strategic partnership between McDonough and A&E, OptiX MAXX brings scanning, optimization, automation, and sawing together into a single coordinated solution designed to improve recovery, increase consistency, and support higher production efficiency at the resaw.
By integrating decision-making and mechanical execution into one system, mills can move toward a more consistent and data-driven approach to processing material.
Designed for Modern Resaw Lines
The OptiX MAXX system is built for sawmills looking to modernize their resaw operations through automation and vision optimization technology.
It is ideal for mills seeking to:
- improve recovery and value from each cant
- increase production consistency across shifts
- reduce operator variability at the resaw
- modernize existing linebar and horizontal resaw systems
- create a more connected and automated sawing process
Each OptiX MAXX system can be configured to match your mill layout, production goals, and material flow requirements, including both linebar resaws and cant sawing horizontal resaw systems.

Grade Optimization in one coordinated system
Rather than combining separate technologies from different suppliers, OptiX MAXX is designed as a coordinated system where optimization and automation work together from the start.
This integrated approach allows scanning intelligence and mechanical performance to support each other, creating a more efficient path from material evaluation to finished cut.
OptiX MAXX can also be integrated into existing McDonough resaw systems. With the addition of a new infeed system, automated turning, and AE’s OptiX optimizing grader, mills can upgrade performance without replacing their current resaw.

About the Partnership
McDonough Manufacturing has been building sawmill machinery since 1888 and is the originator of the linebar resaw, first developed in the early 1900s. OptiX MAXX builds on that legacy by integrating modern vision optimization technology into proven mechanical systems.
Automation & Electronics specializes in advanced scanning, vision systems, and optimization technologies used to improve decision-making in modern mill operations.
The OptiX MAXX system reflects the shared goal of both companies: helping mills combine proven machinery with modern optimization technology in a practical and effective way.
