Machinist

Responsibilities:

Applicants for this position will be required to assist in the success of McDonough Canada by:

  • Machining of parts to print specifications using the machinery available in our machine shop
  • Identifying productivity improvement opportunities in the machining and fabrication operations at McDonough Canada
  • Assisting in the specification and procurement of new machinery and tools for use in the machine shop
  • Operation of a manual/CNC horizontal boring mill
  • Operation of a manual lathe
  • Operation of a manual milling machine
  • Operation of a radial arm drill press
  • Operation of an "ironworker" punch/shear/brake
  • Reading blueprints, locating materials or parts and organizing their machining per drawings and/or verbal instructions

Additional skills that will be an asset to applicants include:

  • Programming early CNC machinery (G-code)
  • Operating stick and wire feed welders
  • Operating a metal hacksaw or abrasive cut-off saw
  • Operating a forklift, overhead crane or jib crane safely
  • Using a disc grinder to smooth out welds or grind parts prior to welding.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment
  • Pneumatic and Hydraulic plumbing experience an asset
  • Electrical wiring experience
  • Ability to position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture.
  • Experience preparing work pieces for paint
  • Applying paint using pneumatic paint applicators
  • Efficient and proper assembly of purchased components to machinery including but not limited to sprockets, shafts, hydraulic and electrical components, chain, belts, tensioner units, rollers, chain run liner, bushings etc.

Education Requirements - Experience and Skills

Applicants for this position should have the following credentials and/or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years experience as a machinist in a production environment
  • Experience in a production fitting/welding environment
  • Experience with a variety of machine tools
  • Experience with a variety of hand tools and metal fabrication shop equipment
  • Machinist trade certification
  • Additional certifications in welding an asset
  • Knowledge of applicable safety standards and a willingness to work safely and wear all PPE

Salary: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
