We are a leading manufacturer of industrial conveyor systems serving heavy industries such as forestry, mining, and bulk material handling in the Maritime Area. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team! The Engineering Manager plays a critical leadership role, responsible for driving engineering output, process efficiency, and technical excellence. This position ensures a consistent pipeline of shop-ready engineering drawings, supporting seamless production flow and high-quality project execution.

Engineering Output & Production Readiness

  • Lead the timely completion of detailed engineering drawings to maintain a strategic buffer of shop-ready designs.
  • Align drawing output with production capacity, material lead times, and project sequencing to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
  • Implement process improvements to accelerate drawing turnaround while ensuring design accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Monitor KPIs to assess drawing throughput and readiness in relation to shop demands.

Engineering Efficiency & Process Optimization

  • Identify and resolve workflow inefficiencies to enhance team productivity and project delivery timelines.
  • Standardize best practices, optimize resource allocation, and integrate engineering tools to improve overall output quality.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability within the engineering team.
  • Use performance metrics and trend analysis to inform decision-making and drive sustained process improvements.

 

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide clear direction, coaching, and performance management to a team of mechanical designers and engineers.
  • Encourage cross-training and collaboration to build a flexible, technically capable team.
  • Promote professional growth through feedback, mentoring, and development planning.

Project & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee engineering execution across projects, ensuring alignment with customer specifications, budget, and delivery milestones.
  • Review and approve designs for conveyor systems and machinery, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Serve as a technical authority on the design and integration of conveyor equipment for heavy-duty industrial applications.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Enforce rigorous quality control standards to ensure the reliability, durability, and safety of engineering outputs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve design issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing initiatives and support the adoption of emerging technologies and methods.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree or P.Eng. designation is a strong asset.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven experience in the design and development of conveyor systems, heavy industrial machinery, or bulk material handling equipment.
  • Background in a manufacturing or fabrication environment with a clear understanding of shop-floor processes and production constraints.
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering management tools (e.g., ERP, PLM, or PDM systems).

Leadership & Management Skills:

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communicator, able to collaborate across departments and clearly convey technical and strategic information to stakeholders at all levels.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work on-site at the manufacturing facility and travel occasionally to customer sites or vendors as needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
