At McDonough Manufacturing, we are proud to collaborate with McShan Lumber, a family-owned business dating back to 1907. A southern yellow pine mill in Alabama, McShan has a long-standing tradition of quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. We’re excited to support McShan with the development of their new 62" twin horizontal, which replaces their obsolete vertical resaw.
The Project: 62" Twin Horizontal
The new 62" twin horizontal is a significant upgrade for McShan, offering a wider range of processing capabilities. This system features Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) technology throughout the entire system for precise speed control, ensuring efficient and consistent material processing. The opposed twin design (machines stacked on top of one another) enhances material flow, reduces bottlenecks, and increases overall productivity. Additionally, McDonough is supplying an infeed, outfeed, and all the necessary controls, including the MCC center. By handling all controls for the project, McDonough ensures seamless integration, making the system as reliable and efficient as possible. The ergonomic cab design also provides operator comfort with clear visibility, allowing for easy monitoring and control of the system.
Replacing an Obsolete Machine
McShan Lumber and McDonough Manufacturing both prioritize precision and reliability in everything we do. As McShan sought to upgrade their operations, we were pleased to provide a solution that not only meets their current needs but also positions them for future growth. Our shared commitment to high-performance equipment and technological advancements made this project a natural fit. McShan’s old vertical resaw had become obsolete, with parts no longer available and increasing reliability issues. Faced with these challenges, McShan needed a more versatile and efficient solution. The new 62" twin horizontal will provide enhanced reliability, easier maintenance, and more flexible processing capabilities. While McShan opted for the opposed twin configuration, we also offer a tandem arrangement (one resaw behind the other) for customers with different operational needs. Both configurations provide high performance, but the opposed twin design gives McShan optimal material processing flexibility.
McShan’s Commitment to Growth and Efficiency
The 62" twin horizontal will allow McShan to process a wider variety of lumber sizes and meet customer demands more effectively. This investment in technology is part of McShan’s ongoing focus on growth, ensuring they can handle higher production volumes without compromising quality. With the new system, McShan will reduce downtime and minimize repair needs, ensuring their operations remain smooth and efficient.
We are proud to support McShan Lumber in their growth and success. This project exemplifies our shared commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that help businesses thrive.
